In this debut novel from Gustaf Berger, a journalist whose fireman father died on 9/11 pursues a couple of slick scammers who benefited from the disaster. When Ted wakes up with his girlfriend du jour on the morning of 9/11, having missed his appointment in the World Trade Center Towers, he turns on the TV and, seeing the mayhem, calls his business partner to let him know he’s still alive. His partner reminds him of their five-million dollar life insurance policy and suggests he “stay dead.” Twelve years later Jordan, a young journalist, hears about two men who benefited from the 9/11 disaster, and she pursues them to expose and bring them to justice; her father was one of the firemen who disappeared into the Towers never to be seen again. Her quest leads her from one offbeat character to another until she reaches the eccentric Leonard Legasse, Ted’s best friend, who agrees to tell her the whole story. But does he? Danger lurks, yet the intrepid Jordan persists, even when her family becomes the target of an unscrupulous mobster.

In Death Revisited, Gustaf Berger tells the story of a young woman who lost her fireman-father when the Twin Towers fell, and becomes a reporter obsessed with finding the truth behind a 5 million dollar insurance settlement paid to the survivor of a man who didn’t die. Berger tells the story by switching between recent time and 9/11-time. His characters, some of whom are on the wrong side of the law, tell us what happened to them, and help us remember our own reactions and experiences to that horrible event. It’s an interesting and enjoyable read.Product details

Death Postponed Gustaf Berger Books Reviews
I have read mystery books all my life. This story has many twists and turns and really captured my interest. I would highly recommend!
I thought this was a great read. So evocative of those days many of us experienced first hand, minute by agonizing minute. Gustav brings you right back there, and has created a very well crafted mystery.
The story keeps moving, keeps the reader engaged - I was holding my breath at moments! Can't wait to see more from Berger!
A non-stop thriller written in a literate way. I learned a lot about a certain sort of interesting scam. You will smile at some of the characters' personalities and antics. Death PostponedI can't wait to read this author's short stories and next novel!
I'm a reader, used to love novels, but for the last few years have read only nonfiction. This is the first novel I've read in years, and it's a winner. The characters are fascinating, loveable and endlessly interesting. The plot moves along at a perfect pace. Many of the descriptions present such beautiful images that you have to call them poetry. Once you begin reading, it's hard to put down. Ron Turbin
Very Readable! When I read it on the bus I nearly missed my stop every time. Filled with zany, despicable characters. They were Shocking -- but Fascinating! Best of all the ending surprised me and made me think, "Why didn't I figure that out!" All the clues were there.... Oh yes, Berger is a master at description -- those telling sensual details that make scenes spring to life.
Death Postponed is a fun read! The characters are really interesting, it's fairly fast paced, and the ending wasn't easy to predict. This is the first fiction that I've read based on the 9/11 tragedy and I thought the author handled it really well.
